The messaged that started it all- unbeknown to me this was all pre-meditated!
The Instagram message above is what started it all. Jill sent me a mood-board of what her vision was so I went out and bought us a couple new outfits and it never really crossed my mind that this photoshoot would be our engagement. Being a lifestyle blogger random photoshoots are second nature to me. Leading up to things Andrew never let a thing slip, he didn’t even act WEIRD- not going to lie I always thought I would figure it out… but I DIDN’T! Here is how the day went…
Sunday September 13,2020
It truly was like any other Sunday for Andrew and I. We woke up and Andrew made some bacon, toast and Bloody Mary’s for us! Football was on all day so Andrew ended up hanging out on the couch while I went and ran some errands before our session with Jill.
Around 2PM we got a text that my sister was going to have my nephew that day, so on top of things there was nothing that crossed my mind, but on drew’s mind he was freaking out thinking we were going to have to cancel our shoot. We knew with all things COVID we wouldn’t be able to go to the hospital anyways, so PHOTOS WERE STILL ON. My dad even ended up calling me confirming me that we were still doing photos.. which I thought was a little weird but still didn’t think anything at the time LOL. ( My dad and oldest sister were the only ones that knew the day exactly he was going to propose- of course he asked my dad, mom and step mom months ago for their blessing and his family knew also)
Around 4:30pm we headed to Weston, MO where the location of Green Dirt Farm is, the drive seemed normal we listened to music Drew acted like it WAS SO FAR OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE LOL- verbatim he said “You and these photoshoots, why is this so far out in the middle of nowhere.” I was like trust me the location is SO COOL and there are SHEEP!!! He just brushed it off. We showed up as well as the photographer and we waited a few minutes for the sheep keeper to come to tell us the lay of the land and where we could go and not go.
When we started taking photos Jill mentioned to us that she wanted us to just go with the flow and let her be creative for about 20 minutes we took photos before drew got down on one knee. After about 20 minutes we started walking to the area where the sheep were. We entered the gate and Jill told me Andrew was going to come behind me and scoop me up on the count of 3 and to brace myself. In that moment I was just waiting to hear her start counting and I was talking to the sheep keeper about the sheep obviously that anything was about to happen.
Drew’s perspective & where he hid the ring- I wasn’t counting how long this moment took- as you can imagine drew started sweating and said it felt like an hour he was on one knee! Andrew said when he was trying to hide the ring he couldn’t hide it in his boot because I would see, as well as his back pocket… sooo he hid it in his UNDERWEAR under his friend…lololol.
Jill counted down to 3 and I braced myself with my hands on my chest, and then she said turn around. I was like “what?” and saw him down on one knee and said “STAAAAHP” it took me a couple moments to get close to him I was so in shock and just taking it all in. When I got up close to him he said “Mika I love you so much and want to spend the rest of my life with you, will you marry me.” of course I SAID YESSS! He got up and began saying it really is how people say it goes, you forget all what you want to say, we laughed and hugged FOREVER, I just was so in shock. I even looked at our photographer and was like “you were in on this” haha I just was so over the moon.
This moment is everything- that smile the sheep!!!
After the proposal Andrew and Jill told me that Green Dirt Farm and Andrew put together a picnic. Rosé, a charcuterie board and the cutest picnic basket.
Having this picnic was another great way we were able to enjoy the moment. We both we so high on love we didn’t end up eating but for sure had a couple drinks of the wine 😉 It truly meant so much to be how much thought Andrew put into this entire day.
We had about an hour left of our session with Jill so we wrapped up our picnic to shoot some fun engagement photos 🙂
After we were wrapping up our session Jill had an idea to stop on the top of the hill on our way out from the location. And the view was breathtaking!! Take a look for yourself …
Here is to our next chapter <3
I am so in love with this guy, I cannot wait to marry him. I hope y’all continue to follow along on our engagement journey and wedding planning!
I keep reliving this day while talking about it with family and friends and it truly was so thought out. Andrew knew how important this moment was for me and it being captured. He just simply gets me and is everything and more. I am so thankful to have these photos for ever for us to relive this moment. Jill outdid herself as well with all the amazing photos be sure to go follow her!
