Happy Wednesday. Let’s talk about jumpers real quick and how they are the perfect wardrob staple you can wear to work and on the weekend! To say I am obsessed with jumpers is an understatement. They are perfect to dress up or wear casually, just toss on a sweater or jean jacket for work! This romper is CURRENTLY on sale! I paired this simple romper with a small heal slip on shoe and this fun bag pack purse. You guys I wear this purse everywhere. I never thought I would use it as much as I do now.
Happy Friday! I could not me more excited for this week to end, is it just me or is summer already flying by?
I can not believe that August is almost here and how full my calendar is getting. Today I am sharing how to style my favorite high wasted jeans with this ruffled shirt from Shop Scoobie go check out their Instagram feed here ShopScoobie <<
Not only are these jeans so comfy they are super flattering and you can dress them up or down.
I chose to make this outfit casual but cute! I am sharing below this similar outfit but also other things you can pair with high wasted jeans!

Shirts to pair with High Wasted Jeans:
Last night Andrew and I went to a VIP event for Kneaders Bakery and Cafe, it was adorable. They will be opening 10 new locations in the Kansas and Missouri areas. They have fresh bread, natural ingredients, gourmet salads, yummy pastries and so much more! Let’s just say I left with a handful of bread and goodies. If you get a chance, look them up! You won’t be disappointed!
Who doesn’t love a comfy casual outfit! I love dressing up or dressing down a basic solid color dress and of course pairing it with my go to shoes Keds!
How fun is this jean hat! I recently got it from Shop Scoobie! They had a various amount of fun colors and materials. Lets talk about this dress also with the pop of color, I have always struggled with figuring out what color is “my” color. I’ve always been told mustard yellow and orange is not for blondes and blah blah blah! I don’t believe that anyone can tell you what is and what is not your color! My tip of the night is go bold or go HOME! Color is in and so are risks, try new things you will never know until you try.
Speaking of trying new things, going on TV was such a fun experience for me and my blog Layers and Lipstick! I would have to say I am still at a loss of words from all the love and encouragement I received that was truly inspiring. Again, thank you all for tuning it. If you still missed it head on over to my Facebook page Layers and Lipstick (<click) and you can find it there! 🙂
I am so ready for the weekend! Andrew is headed to Chicago and I have booked up my weekend with multiple coffee dates with some good friends, a food truck and wine night, and of course a long to-do list!
Don’t get me wrong I love living with Andrew and seeing his sweet face everyday but I am kind of excited to have the house to myself. That means catching up on laundry, cleaning my office, catching up on OITNB and many more little things.
Yes, you read that right! I am going on TV this weekend, Saturday morning to be exact! I have been so nervous and to be honest a little freaked out in the best way possible, someone pinch me! Keep scrolling to find out where you can watch.
Of course I had to share this fun romper also from Old Navy!
I am obsessed with this jumper you guys! I have linked a similar one different pattern here (romper) and these shoes <3
How fun, I am going on TV this Saturday a 7:50AM on Fox! If you are local tune in to WDAF. I am not going to spoil what I will be doing on there so you have to wake up super early to see me!
Never in a million years did I think I would be chosen to be part of something so fun. I have no idea what I am wearing tomorrow morning but hey, I am sure I can find something! Hence I ran to the mall last night in hopes to find something… it was a fail. Ha
Happy Friday! Be sure to follow me on Instagram @layersnlipstick for a behind the scenes of tomorrow morning!

Happy Saturday! It is rainy and chilly here in Kansas City, totally opposite of the weather you would wear this romper in.
Can we just talk about how cute rompers are but how they are not practical at all for us girls when we need to go to the bathroom. It is the worse when you really have to go! This one thankfully is loose and easy to slip on and off. As big of a pain they are we all still where them. This romper is under $30 be sure to snag it while it is still in stock 🙂 Click on the image above.
I have been on a major cleaning kick with my closet. I tried on so many things and especially winter stuff. If I did not wear it this past season, buh bye. I always keep things in hopes of thinking I will wear them, that never happens. My thought is when I am doing this process is someone out there needs it more than I do, so why let it just sit in my closet or in a bin. I need to clean more often I also find things I thought I “lost” nope just somewhere I probably put it and forgot…HA
I hope y’all have a great Saturday! Stay dry and warm <3

I mentioned above that we all need the perfect white dress for spring time, and I wanted to share this simple but fun dress you can dress up or down from Target, from their Who What Wear Collection. Similar dresses linked below.
Am I the only one who seems to be scrabbling around last minute always to find a green shirt for St. Patricks Day?! Hope
Hope y’all are wearing your green today, so you don’t get pinched!
You guys I am not going to lie, I am so ready for the weekend! This week has been so strange. I literally went to the grocery store last night to decompress from reality. Am I the only one who actually enjoys the grocery store like that?! HA I feel like sometimes that is where I get to do some major thinking, I know super weird! But sometimes you gotta find what works for you, and that works for me… and that also includes sometimes buying more groceries that were not on our list, whoops!
At the grocery store I picked up some rise krispie cereal, marshmallows and green food coloring. I think we all know where this is headed! I made rice krispie treats, I truly enjoy cooking and baking! and rice krispies are so simple to whip up for any occasion.
I wanted to take a second to bring some attention to this jean jacket from Old Navy. I have been on the hunt for a trendy but yet simple jacket to pair with any outfit. So make sure you snag this one that is similar before it is gone! It is currently on SALE! Linked below, all you have to do is click the the image!
Words really cannot describe what a journey my blog has taken me on! If you’re recently just now following me on my journey, welcome!
How fun in this purple wall <3
I have never really been into big earrings, but these earrings changed that game for me. How gorgeous are these?
(It was really windy FYI so you’ll see that the balloon was backwards majority of the time)
Where do I even begin. First off I am so thankful for my followers and fashionistas that have supported me along this crazy road.
When I realized I wanted to start a blog I never really understood what I was getting myself into. Not only the investment but the time and effort it really takes. This has all really been a learning curve for me and Andrew. He has been my right hand man when it comes to what goes on behind the scenes for Layers and Lipstick. So shout out to Andrew! Thanks babe!
My blog really has taught me a lot about myself, the good and the bad. Putting myself out there has been hard for me this year, but that is one goal this next year for my blog to really be transparent with you all about the day- to- day life of Mika Jade.
I have some big plans for Layers and Lipstick this year! Thank you so much to all whom support me and this fun adventure.
TGIF! How great are these leather pants?! If you don’t on a pair of leather pants/ leggings your missing out. These are a fun piece to have in your closet. One thing I love about these is that they are really comfy, affordable and you can pair them with anything.
If you haven’t heard of Effin Shop, well now you have. It is a fun clothing company that always has new things on Tuesdays and a variety. You can find my pants and the white sweater on their website. Which I have linked below.
Happy Valentine’s day. I hope you all are having a great week. How fun is this outfit?! I found this cute top from Dillard’s and paired it with my favorite new shoes from Steve Madden. I got this whole outfit for under $150!
Personally I really enjoy Valentine’s Day. Who doesn’t love to get all dressed up for an occasion. Tonight Andrew and I have plans to get Sushi and go to a movie, which is one of my favorite things to do and eat. I am a fan of the deep fried rolls (which are totally unhealthy).
Let not use today just to spoil our significant others or ourselves today, we should find time every week/ month to take time to disconnect from our busy schedules. Valentine’s Day should remind you to always find time for the ones you love the most. If you are single and having a “galentines” day or spending it with your hunny I hope you have a fab day either way <3
Don’t forget to check out Brooke from Nomadic Newlyweds who took these pretty pictures <3
How adorable and fun are these photos from our pie date. My good/talented friend Brooke from Nomadic Newlyweds. Just in time for Valentines Day tomorrow. I have to admit I have been missing for quit some time lately. A little life update below these fun photos <3
How adorable is this little pie shop?! Hands down best pie I have ever ate, and they come in different sizes and flavors. It was a blast working with Brooke, she made us so comfortable.
We just got back from Michigan yesterday afternoon, and I am still exhausted. We went back home to have Andrew’s family Christmas party. I have yet to unpack and have no desire to… is that bad?! LOL It is always nice to go back home, but to be back in your own bed and get back in a routine. That will never get old. Our house is a mess, everything is everywhere and needs to be picked up. My to-do list is so long right now I have a headache, literally from even thinking about it.
I got a new job, yes a new job. I believe that I am to young to just settle. Don’t get me wrong my last job was a great job to have and I loved everyone there! It personally was not for me and I am glad I realized it early on rather then trying to force myself to doing something I did not feel was my calling. I am now working for an Advertising Agency and love it! Not only is it a fun learning curve, but the overall the people and atmosphere is a breathe of fresh air.
With having a new job, I have became very busy and haven’t had time to update my blog as often as I want. Adjusting to this lifestyle is something I am still trying to figure out. Adulting is a continuous thing as I am sure we are learning.
Our Home: Our house is coming together slowly but surely. On our trip to Michigan I stopped at my new favorite store The Found Cottage and snagged some fun items.
Luther: Luther just got his actual first big boy hair cut, like I do not recognize him. I cannot believe he turns one the twenty first of this month. Where has time gone?!
I would love to hear what you guys want to see more, know more of for me to share on my blog! Let me know your thoughts please 🙂
I am about to stuff my face with left over Thai food and catch up on all our shows 🙂 Have a good night!
Happy New Year Lovies! I always love when the New Year comes along, it’s a great excuse to set the reset button and start fresh. Do the things you didn’t do last year and do new things that better yourself.
I hope you all had such a great Christmas and NYE! We had such a fun time, with Ice skating and some yummy sushi.
I am not one to make New Year resolutions, but I am one to set goals for myself every new year. I think it’s really important to set goals and succeed at them. It always makes me feel accomplished. I wanted to share with you all just a few of my new year resolutions.
Do more things that make me happy.
Drink more water.
Go on more adventures this year.
Take a whole day off from tech.
Cook more at home ( Andrew got me Chrissy Tiegen’s Cook Book, Cravings. Lets just say WOW! I can’t wait to start using those recipes.
Organize my closet.
Create more content of my life through videos.
Take more photos of my life.
Walk more with Luther Nash.
Write more cards.
Be more intentional.
Those are just a few things that I am challenging myself to do this new year. We can get caught up in our day- to – day lives, and not take time to do things that we really want to do. We simply just need to make more time.
Have a great Tuesday! I hope you challenge yourself to make some goals for yourself this year.
Hello December! Who else is sad that fall is now over?! I sure am. I am obsessing over this Who What Wear collection floral neutral dress is just too good to put away for the season. It has leather accents around the neck and sleeves. Pretty positive you will be seeing it again mixed with my winter wardrobe.
I am a frequent shopper at Target and I am loving their Who What Wear collection. They have some great Holiday pieces you all should go check out 🙂
I have a full weekend ahead! I hope you all have a great weekend!
Recently I have been digging this Leather Jacket! This week is going to consist of cleaning, catching up on laundry and preparing for a fun week ahead with family 🙂
Currently obsessing over this knit turtle neck sweater from Target. I paired it with my leather jacket, something I have been really into wearing. It is so easy to dress a leather jacket up or dress it down. ( Andrew always refers me to Sandy from Grease…) LOL. After all, this turtle neck is also something very simple, that I see myself wearing a lot this season.
How was everyone’s weekend?! We had such a fun weekend that consisted of a pre- thanksgiving dinner with family from out of town and was able to get our Holiday card pictures done!:) I am so excited to work on those.
Stay tuned for more post’s to come this week about preparing for thanksgiving and the perfect sweater to hide that food baby after eating all week ha!
Good Morning all! Check out this cute and comfy Charlie Hustle shirt, they are all super easy to pair with any type of outfit 🙂 and that handsome guy I had to post this picture of him, because he is always the one behind the camera for me! So shout out to this incredible human being for being so great!
Words cannot describe how busy I have been these past couple weeks. Believe it or not I was going to post this on Sunday, just in time for the Chiefs game! But that didn’t happen, obviously…LOL!
We are trying to make our house some what presentable for Thanksgiving because we are hosting Andrew’s parents for the first time in our new home. I could not be more thrilled! We have put together the guest bedroom finally and added a few touches to the bathroom and kitchen.
The kitchen is almost complete, we are adding subway tile this week and should be finished by the end of the weekend. Fingers crossed! Our dining room is just needing some chairs, and a rug. We also need a rug in the living room and man, it is so hard to commit to something that really determines everything in that one room!
I hope you all have a fabulous Wednesday, and I heard its National Fast Food Day! GO out and enjoy that greasy, yummy food!
Savers is a one-stop shop for Halloween and provides a budget-friendly way to celebrate. With new packaged costumes, makeup, wigs and accessories! It’s fun and easy to
create a unique, one-of-a-kind look.
I had a blast collaborating with Savers for Halloween! Who doesn’t love a good deal?!
My first look is a Bumble bee! I wanted to find pieces that I could use with items in my closet! I found the fun tights at savers, and accessories. I then paired it with my black flats and simple black dress.
My second look I put together was a clown! I was really debating on doing this with everything going on with the scary clown stuff. But I’m sorry, I am not going to let those people ruin my halloween! You can totally be a cute clown by shopping at savers 🙂
I again found these fun accessories and wore a very simple black dress with my black flats from my closet! This was very easy to put together for a last minute ideas!
I hope y’all enjoyed my Halloween DIY post! Don’t forget to stop into Savers to pick up some last minute pieces to complete your costume!

You guys this weekend was one for the books! Friday night I attended Kansas City Fashion week with my main squeeze! Andrew and I had a blast. It a first for both of us going and we sure did enjoyed every minute of it. I loved all the fashion forward styles, the fun photo bus and I absolutely loved how the evening flowed and their awesome swag bags. The bags were filled with so many great products from Aveda and a few things from the participating vendors.
You can find this exact dress on their website ( my color is sold out but there is a different color available) Roolee This dress it is super comfy, and really great for any occasion <3
Saturday I went to The Florida Georgia Line Concert, Oh my lordy. It was amazing. If you are a country fan, you need to go. End of story <3
I hope y’all have a great week! I am one busy bee. You will find me editing, working and traveling this week into next week to Michigan and Georgia!! ahhh! I am really looking forward to this crazy busy weekend. I am hopefully going to make a pit stop to one of my favorite little stores in Michigan. Stay tuned I hope to find some fun stuff for the new house!
Good Morning! I know I know, I have been MIA for a while. I wanted to share with you all one of my favorite things to do as the seasons change. I don’t know about you all but I love transitioning my closet between seasons.
How do I do this? I put all my summer clothes into a bin, my tanks, dresses, cover-ups and sandals.
I then unpacked all my fall/ winter shoes, coats, and bulky sweaters. I hang up all the clothes in order, with sweaters being in a section, and long sleeve and short sleeves being in another section. I then of course put up my shoes!
I was just talking to one of my co-workers about how I absolutely love fall/ winter season clothes. There is so much more of a variety. Don’t get be wrong, I love summer and spring. But there is just something about bulky sweaters and layering I enjoy much more.
For this outfit I took this simple suede dress and added a fun long cardigan for this brisk weather and paired it with my favorite Steve Madden booties of the season.
I hope you all have a fab weekend, I will be attending the KCFW Show tonight, I have a concert tomorrow night and yay for fall festivities on Sunday! We are headed to a pumpkin patch to eat donuts, drink some cider and pick out some pumpkins 🙂
You guys! I want to take a moment to talk about the guy who has supported all my crazy ideas, moved away from his home town for this girl, eats just as much as I do and we aren’t ashamed of it and the one who is behind the camera!
This past August we celebrated our 3 years. I wouldn’t change a thing! We are by no means perfect but to me he is perfect. Andrew has helped me become whom I want to be as a person. He has taught me not to sweat the little things, live each day like it’s the last and laugh often!
A few things about Drew. He is a mamas boy and that’s one thing I love about him. When you see a man treat his mom like the world you know your in store for a great life ahead! Not only that but he values his family and even though he’s hundreds of miles away he tries his hardest to be the best, son, brother, friend and uncle to his friends and family.
Drew has the biggest smile and best laugh that can honestly put a smile on anyones face! He has really funny jokes, or really horrible ones that I have no idea what he is talking about but I can’t help but laugh. He is a movie junky, he knows every Jim Carrey movie there is out there!
Life with drew has been a rollercoaster! The long distance, the FaceTime dates, the multiple trips back and forth from Kansas City to Michigan and now living together! We truly are working on ourselves, and our relationship every day. Relationships are not easy. I literally learn something new from this guy every day.
Some pretty big news is we are moving into a HOUSE! We have been living in an apartment together for a year. We decided to move into a house. We have been wanting to get a back yard for Luther and the opportunity fell into our lap with this home. We are so beyond blessed with this opportunity and it being passed down from my Family. We will be renting and fixing it up as time goes on. We are currently getting things all together for the big move. I can’t wait to share more, we have been busting our butts to make this house our home I can’t wait to share pictures with you guys once we get settled! <3 So for now Cheers to 3 years and seeing what God has in store for us next, have a fab weekend!
Hi lovies!! I am so so so excited for fall, and my closet is proof to show it! I have been wanting to find a turtleneck sweater for a while now and I scored this one recently at Nordstrom Rack! How about those booties?! I believe everyone needs a good pair of versatile booties. With that being said, earlier on in the Summer and finally busted them out, I mean everything about them says autumn is coming. A trend I am super stoked about is bucket purses, they are totally a thing right now and I got this one also at Nordstrom Rack. I am so in love with it, there is something about a good outfit and fall like weather. I hope you all have a stellar night, I’m off to bed!
Good morning ! As I sit hear writing this I am looking at Luther so groggy from meds, and I am so tired. Yesterday he got fixed, we were up practically all night trying to stay comfy in bed. Finally at 4AM I put him in his crate because poor thing didn’t know what he wanted.
These past few weeks have been hectic with renovating/ cleaning a new house, getting back into town, balancing clients and all that jazz. The one thing I get to do that I truly believe keeps me sane is work out! I wanted to share with you one of my go to brands when it comes to working out!
Working out has never been my favorite thing to do, but the aspect of how it balances me out is why I do it.
Nike has been one of my favorite brands since I can remember. From their sports bras, to their shoes! I recently got these new kicks and have to say that are by far the comfiest Nike shoes I have ever owned! Their brand has always been loyal to their costumers.
With this fall coming up I am so excited for more runs and walks outside!! My routine consists of this >>> workout! I personally use the 12 week plan. I have been such a slacker lately with us being out of town and moving this month there is a lot going on. I can’t wait to get this booty back into shape and share with you all my journey from my workouts to my meals!
Hello 24, and Hello September. It has been almost over a month since I have made a post!
Well I am a little ALOT late to the big thank yous to everyone who help celebrate my 24th Birthday last month! I am so blessed to be surrounded with such loving people. My birthday was one for the books!
Andrew took the day off and we woke up, opened gifts from him and Mr. Luther and then headed Downtown for some yummy bagels I have been wanting to try. We then spent the day majority being lazy due to the heat index being way to hot to enjoy the outdoors. We then continued our night with family and friends at The Oliver a restaurant down at the Country Club Plaza. They had amazing food, and were so kind and made me a birthday card signed by all the servers, I thought that was so sweet <3
We then headed to Mccormicks and shmitsd for a yummy dessert our friends have been talking about. THE CHOCOLATE BAG! If you haven’t had one I highly suggest it. It is life changing.
I’ve always loved a good simple chic dress perfect for any occasion. I wore this great dress for my sisters Sprinkle. I found it for only $16.99 at TJMAXX ! They never disappoint.
Can we all say HELLO AUGUST! Dang, where has this summer went? Is it bad that I’m excited for Fall?! The combat boots, comfy sweaters and jeans! I can’t event think of fall until we get past this fun month! There is so much happening Andrew and I are celebrating 3 years Sunday, my birthday is Wednesday the big 24! And a trip to Michigan at the end of this Month where we will see all of our family and friends. My parents just got a boat and so did Andrew’s so that called for getting Luther a life jacket and it is adorable on him! Also want to be safe since he has never been on open water! Safety first! We have such a crazy schedule on top of so many more fun things to come in September and October!
I recently came along some great new foundation and lipstick! I have been asked a a few times to share my favorite lipstick brands so I thought why not make a post soon about that! 🙂 So please stay tuned for that fun post!
When a rainy morning turns into a beautiful day, you know its going to be a good day!

Happy Sunday! What has everyone been up to this Holiday weekend?! Whats up with this rainy weather. I am looking forward to some sunshine tomorrow, hopefully. Despite the rain it overall has been a great weekend so far. Full of family, friends and I had a wedding yesterday that I filmed.
Since it is rainy today headed to do some retail therapy and found a cute handkerchief for Luther Nash that he will wear tomorrow! The only thing that was missing from this shoot was a nice cold coke in a bottle!!
Shorts : American Eagle// Shirt: Forever 21// Black Sunglasses : Quay// Heart Sunglasses: Target
I hope you all have a great and safe rest of your weekend! Lets not forget what tomorrow is about.
Happy Monday! Who is ready for the 4th! I sure am, nothing I love more than celebrating Independence Day surround by the ones I love. I also am obsessing over the striped dress from Zara!! It is currently sold out, such a bummer! But it is so light weight, and you can dress it up or dress it down! You’ll catch me wearing it this weekend!
Where has this month gone? I am amazed by how fast it is going by! I have some traveling plans coming up this month and in August that will make it go by even faster. I am trying to absorb every moment of this summer I can. But is it bad to say I am a lover of Fall?! <3
This weekend was so fun but yet so busy! Friday night we went out to dinner with some of our friends to II Lazzarone located near the River Markey. I have been wanting to go to this spot for a while and finally went, it was scrumptious. I love me authentic pizza. Saturday night we went to go watch our friend play Baseball for the T-bones. It was hot and sticky out but I scored a yummy corn dog. I told y’all I was a foodie! We wrapped the weekend up with a lazy Sunday but much needed!
Tonight I have some dinner in the crockpot, a yummy chicken salsa recipe and of course watching the bachelorette tonight! Who else is a sucker for that show?! I got drew to start watching it with me when we started dating and now he is hooked! Have a great night!
Happy Hump Day! Yesterday Andrew and I went out to dinner @ the MIXX and hung out with some of our friends. Adjusting to working from home has been putting me in a funk and so getting out and having coffee and meeting with other creatives and of course visiting my nephew blake and sisters has been keeping me sane. Luther turned 4 months old today! Which is so crazy to me, he finally went down the stairs yesterday guys! And then got sick due to us bribing him to go down with treats, poor thing. But hey he now goes down them no problem!! Today I am editing, making calls and preparing some outfits for a session tomorrow with a friend who takes fabulous photos <3 Below is a fun video I put together of Mr. Luther Nash Enjoy!
Have you ever had a weekend where you get away and it goes by so fast you’re sad its over, but you’re so glad to be home!? Well that was my weekend. I had such a great weekend, where I filmed a beautiful wedding, was able to schedule as mommy and me session with some great people and visit with family and friends! As great and rewarding it was, it is so great to sleep in my own bed and get back into routine and OF COURSE see my hunny.
(For those of you who don’t know I am a photography/ videographer ) So, Lets talk about this wedding I filmed, I really can’t even describe how down to earth it was and how relaxed the bride and groom were! They had a traditional ceremony and a reception to follow, but the way they went about it was so great. The bride complete DIY’d the entire thing. She had several different center pieces under a large tent that was filled with lights, dueling pianos as her music/ dj, a truck bed full of beer, a path way full of lights, random doors decorated with their initials and trees full of decor, vintage couches, lamps and that really doesn’t even do it justice! You’ll just have to follow me on Instagram and my photography FB page to see it when its finished (@mikajadephotography & Mika Jade Photography- FB )
**Being in the wedding industry you sure do see a lot, and I have been so blessed to see such positive sides of it, thanks to my cool clients! So shout out to them <3 **
The day before I left, I got sun poisoning sitting out for 2 hours! I used SPF and everything, obviously it wasn’t the best brand. Lets just say I still am recovering from that and it sure isn’t fun. Aloe & Coconut oil have been my best friend these past couple days. That night I enjoyed some delicious mexican food with some of the coolest gals I know. We sipped on margaritas, ate guac & queso while catching up and sharing laughs. ( Blog post soon to come )
My mom and I drove back to KC yesterday morning at 2:30 am and I have been unpacking all day today and getting Luther back into a routine. It was a quick but long trip and like I said I am so glad to be home! I just realized also that Bachelorette is not on tonight. So looks like some netflix & chill is about to happen! I hope you all enjoy your Monday night and have a great week!
White off shoulder shirt (similar ) : Versona // Tan Over coat: Versona // Chunky Heel DSW
Happy Friday Night! I am loving this off the shoulder trend and chunk heel trend!! This is the perfect transition outfit from Spring to Summer! Not going to lie, getting use to this heel took a while and after a few hours my feet were killing! The shoe is comfy but totally need to break them in before planning on wearing them all day long! How great is this background ?! Andrew’s family home is right on a Lake in Michigan and theres the cutest house and beautiful front yard with this big tree and I insisted on stopping!
What’s everyone doing this weekend?!! We have some plans, but tonight we are staying in to relax drink some wine and watch some movies! Theres something about staying in on a Friday that makes the weekend last a little longer! I hope you all have a safe, fun and beautiful weekend!
This past weekend was such a quick, fun and exhausting time in Michigan. We left late Thursday night after Andrew got out of work, which helped Luther sleep the entire way and arrive to the Mitten around 8:30 AM its safe to say we didn’t sleep once we got in! We had plenty of places to stop and see everyone and show off Luther, of course! When we arrived to the lake we got us some lunch and let Luther meet is Uncle Charlie ( Salt & Pepper 11 year old Miniature Schnauzer ) and relaxed. Later that day we went to make our visits and ended up at the end of the night at my mom and step dads for a yummy home cooked meal.
This Dock is right in front of Andrew’s family home. I have to say it really never gets old. Coming out here and being able to sit right on the lake and enjoy some cocktails and family time. I knew this outfit would be perfect for the day on the lake. This is Gunlake a smaller town in Michigan near Kalamazoo and the Grand Rapids area if you’re not familiar. My hometown is about 30 minutes from Gunlake.
Our Weekend Recap:
Saturday: We woke up and set up for Al’s Retirement Party ( Andrew’s Father ) and relaxed as much as we could until that night we celebrated his dad’s retirement party! It was a hoot, practically a family reunion for Andrew! I absolutely adore his family, not only are they are so sweet and beautiful on the inside and out but THE FOOD! I am such a foodie. I love when I know they are going to cook because I always arrive on an empty stomach and have 3 plates full!
Sunday: Mothers Day, I planned a nummy brunch for Andrew’s family and my mom and step dad at the Waldorf Brew pub and bistro a local brewery in Hastings, Michigan. I loved spending the day with my mom and loved being a dog mom. We knew we were heading out Monday AM so we went to bed super early!!
Monday: We headed back to KC! And I received some really really great news regarding my blog, and my photography business!! That I cannot wait to share with you all VERY SOON! Other than that, Luther did so good until we got about an hour away from our apartment and totally wanted out and wanted to play. Poor thing, as much as we should have stopped we wanted to get home so we just pushed though! He did so good I can’t complain. Yesterday I stayed home to regroup, clean, grocery shop and do laundry! It felt so good … meaning I wish I was still in bed right now! Ha.
NOTHING feels better than being home! Let me tell ya. I hope you all had a great Mother’s Day weekend!
I am all about that half up, half down hair look lately. Usually I wear my hair all down either curled or straightened but I have been working on trying not to do so much to it. The more I deep condition, take my vitamins and not use so much heat on my hair I truly can tell a difference. (Hair care routine coming soon)
Can we just take a moment to talk about this dress!? I got it from forever 21 for $14.00 it is the perfect go to dress but I never knew linen would wrinkle so bad. I steamed it twice and it was perfect and then a ride in the car and it got so wrinkly! So excuse the wrinkles 😉
Sunday’s are my favorite and yesterday was the perfect Sunday for me! Andrew and I went out to eat at Louis Wine and Dive down in Waldo, KS. If you love a good breakfast, Mimosas and Bloody Mary’s thats the place to be! I got the benedict’s and eggs and Andrew got their breakfast platter. We then went and bought our first grill, I am such a nerd but I was so excited to get one. We spent the rest of the day putting that together, playing with Luther and visiting with family.

Happy Monday guys! This Comfy casual outfit was my go to outfit when we woke up early to explore the outskirts of Nashville. I found this fun little breakfast joint, called Nashville’s Biscuit House. So of course I had to try their biscuits and gravy. They were DELISH! Andrew got this towered breakfast sandwich ( pictures to come soon ) ! I found this fun wall down the street, on the side of a store! I just couldn’t pass it up! Who doesn’t love a good cow pattern?!
It feels great to be back home though. As much as I love traveling, nothing beats your own bed. I bet you are all dying to see more pictures of our puppy, we named him Luther Nash, he will be making his debut shortly on the blog! He is doing great, and settling in just well! He sure has been showing his personality and his voice today. I can’t wait to share more with you about Luther’s adventure from Nashville to KC and more posts to come about our trip!! I am so tired and thats no excuse but thats all for now. I hope you all had a great day and have a lovely night, MWAH.
It’s Wishlist Wednesday, I just know I am going to love Wednesday’s even more, not just because it’s almost Friday but I get to share with you guys the things I have my eyes one.
I have always loved the transition from Winter to Spring it always means new makeup, accessories and clothes! All the items listed above are under $100 and they are all things that can work with anything in your wardrobe!
Update on our trip! We are headed to Nashville, and I could not be more excited! We are staying near The Opryland Resort, Broadway Street and will be going to a lot of yummy places to eat and some of Nashville’s attractions! Thanks to my Facebook Friends who had great suggestions! We will be there for 3 full days before we pick up our puppy. We have yet to finalize his name, but are pretty sure we have one! We just want to wait until we see him in person and his little personality. I never thought I would be that dog mom, but I have already spoiled him and he’s not even home yet! I can’t wait to introduce him to you all! Feel free to add me on Snap to follow along on our road trip! Username: mikajade
Happy Monday! I am still smiling from ear to ear to have launched my blog yesterday! Thank you all for following along! This past week was one for the books, my best friend came into town from Michigan to visit me! We went to the Justin Bieber concert at the Sprint Center, and it was simply fun. Come to find out we were not even close to being the oldest ones there, so I don’t feel guilty AT ALL! He was great, and I would highly suggest if you ever get the opportunity, go see him! You won’t regret it. The two of us also did some shopping at Zona Rosa Town Center!
A few details about this outfit.. I am all about good deals, right now my jeans and flats are on sale! (Links above) I recently bought this shirt from Target from their new collection Who What Wear. Super affordable and they have such a great line for this Spring.
I am looking forward to this upcoming week. A trip to Nashville with Andrew is in order to pick up our first puppy. We are thrilled and cannot only wait to pick him up but also to explore the city for a few days.
I hope you all have a great day, and be sure to check in for more posts later this week!
