I have always been a firm believer that a mini get-away is good for the soul and I always tell others that but never really do it for myself. Well, I finally did a couple weeks back. Andrew and I went to Nebraska for a one night stay at the Graduate Hotel. Our minds were blown by how unique this hotel was. Just walking in you were greeted with kind staff and bright decor. The Graduate Hotels reside in the most dynamic university towns across the country.
When we got to our room we probably spent about 15 minutes noticing all the little quirks the room had. The interior designer of this hotel did not miss a beat.
The main lobby was to die for. I have never been in awe when walking into a hotel until I walked into the Graduate.
I wanted to bring this emerald green couch home. I noticed the cornhusk drapes (Nebraska Cornhuskers) so cool seeing the Lincoln traditions being incorporated into these rooms. We were obsessed with this couch if you couldn’t tell!
How groovy is this pool, it makes me want to buy a high waisted bathing suit, throw my hair up in a tall bun and kick back and relax with a big pair of sunglasses on! Ha!
When I walked in to see all the bright pastels my heart was so happy. Sad news, I forgot my swimsuit we realized as we were running through our list of things when we were on the road. That just gives us an excuse to go back this summer!
Thank you Graduate Hotel for the accommodations on our one night stay- the staff was superb. Andrew and I had a blast, we will be back again!
If you are looking for a good get-away but not too far from home, I can’t say this enough, stay at the Graduate. They have several different locations including Lincoln- Nebraska, Ann Arbor- Michigan, Chicago just to name a few. You can check out their website here Graduate Hotel to book your trip to the one closest to you.
This past weekend was such a quick, fun and exhausting time in Michigan. We left late Thursday night after Andrew got out of work, which helped Luther sleep the entire way and arrive to the Mitten around 8:30 AM its safe to say we didn’t sleep once we got in! We had plenty of places to stop and see everyone and show off Luther, of course! When we arrived to the lake we got us some lunch and let Luther meet is Uncle Charlie ( Salt & Pepper 11 year old Miniature Schnauzer ) and relaxed. Later that day we went to make our visits and ended up at the end of the night at my mom and step dads for a yummy home cooked meal.
This Dock is right in front of Andrew’s family home. I have to say it really never gets old. Coming out here and being able to sit right on the lake and enjoy some cocktails and family time. I knew this outfit would be perfect for the day on the lake. This is Gunlake a smaller town in Michigan near Kalamazoo and the Grand Rapids area if you’re not familiar. My hometown is about 30 minutes from Gunlake.
Our Weekend Recap:
Saturday: We woke up and set up for Al’s Retirement Party ( Andrew’s Father ) and relaxed as much as we could until that night we celebrated his dad’s retirement party! It was a hoot, practically a family reunion for Andrew! I absolutely adore his family, not only are they are so sweet and beautiful on the inside and out but THE FOOD! I am such a foodie. I love when I know they are going to cook because I always arrive on an empty stomach and have 3 plates full!
Sunday: Mothers Day, I planned a nummy brunch for Andrew’s family and my mom and step dad at the Waldorf Brew pub and bistro a local brewery in Hastings, Michigan. I loved spending the day with my mom and loved being a dog mom. We knew we were heading out Monday AM so we went to bed super early!!
Monday: We headed back to KC! And I received some really really great news regarding my blog, and my photography business!! That I cannot wait to share with you all VERY SOON! Other than that, Luther did so good until we got about an hour away from our apartment and totally wanted out and wanted to play. Poor thing, as much as we should have stopped we wanted to get home so we just pushed though! He did so good I can’t complain. Yesterday I stayed home to regroup, clean, grocery shop and do laundry! It felt so good … meaning I wish I was still in bed right now! Ha.
NOTHING feels better than being home! Let me tell ya. I hope you all had a great Mother’s Day weekend!
Happy Friday and Happy 2 Months Luther Nash! I can’t believe he has been with us a week, today.
4 Months ago Andrew and I talked about getting a puppy but were very indecisive, not only because they are an investment and time consuming but the fact that our lives would be forever changed. Andrew was addamit on getting a Miniature Schnauzer because his family dog (Charlie) is that breed and they are great dogs! I agreed that we could get one also and once he gave me the GO I was on the hunt for breeders. We found Jennifer who owns My Lovable Schnauzers from Nashville, TN. She was very informational and I was in contact with her before we agreed to get a puppy to just pick her brain. I had lots of questions and she answered them all. She made the process getting Luther such a breeze. Once Luther was born, we had first pick between him and his brother they were both black but Luther has his little white patch. It took me 4.5 weeks to decided which one to choose, why do I say “it took me” because Andrew picked not only the breed he picked the sex and his name! So it was on me to choose which one we would bring home! We obviously chose Luther. There was just something about him during the weeks when we saw pictures/ videos and conversations between Jennifer (breeder) and I! He is the perfect match for us.
We traveled last week to Nashville to pick him up and he did awesome on our 8 hour drive. It felt like it took us 10 hours due to stopping and letting him out and always looking at him while driving haha! From the very beginning of wanting a dog I always believed in crate training. So he has been in his crate since day one being home and sleeping at night. He has done awesome every night. He cries for about the most 3 minutes and goes to bed until 6-7am with no accidents. He is staring to learn to go to the stairs to let us know he has to go potty, he’s had some accidents in the apartment but nothing major! He has became very attached to me which I think drew has became a little jelly 😉 but it was bound to happen to know of us! Luther LOVES to eat. We ended up feeding him a little more because he was acting like we were starving him, poor thing. His favorite toy is a partial giraffes butt ( thank you auntie Stacy ) this toy is hilarious and I have to go buy him more because it is practically missing its tail now!Link here to similar toy: Dog Toy . Luther is getting along great with other dogs especially Lillie ( my sisters dog ) He loves her. He likes meeting knew people but is a little timid and shy at first but that is known with this type of breed, the more we expose him to people, noises and anything and everything the more he will be open. He loves spending the morning in the bathroom with Andrew and I when we get ready for work and loves the couch. He runs and tries to jump up but isn’t even close to clearing! He can go up all our stairs, but cannot go down them yet, he just barks! He can sit on command and we are working on laying down and roll over. He is still learning and so are we! This is a very big transition for Andrew and I but we are both thrilled and so happy we have him. I never thought I would be that “dog mom” but I am so GUILTY! I hope you all have a great Friday and awesome weekend!
