Luther Nash Turns 2

Where has the last 2 years gone? Happy Birthday Luther Nash. Becoming a dog mom I have learned so much and gained such a great responsibility.

Andrew and I are in disbelief that this dude once was the size of our forearm. We have watched several home videos of the moments we have documented and are pinching ourselves on how fast time has gone by.

Of course we spoiled him with a peanut butter cake from Three Dog’s Bakery.Yes I know the 2 is backwards but running from the tripod and picking up the prop I was not prepared! LOL

I know I have said it probably way to much, but we got so lucky with Luther. He is seriously practically perfect- well no one/ dog is perfect but I have no complaints. Okay well maybe his breath sometimes and his barking but goodness- he’s so CUTE. Drew claims I love Luther more than him… and I just say “It is a different type of love.” Am I right? haha

Can I admit something- for the entire year up until a couple days when he turned one I thought his birthday was February 21… then I started looking through emails with his breeder and realized it was the 22! THE ENTIRE TIME WE HAD HIM I THOUGHT IT WAS THE 21st…for the first year NOPE the 22nd LOL! Dog mom of the year ūüėȬ†

Happy Birthday Luther Nash- Thanks for making me a dog mom and responsible human being.

Luther Nash Turns 1

Happy Birthday Luther Nash. I cannot believe you are one already, where has the time gone?

Words really can’t describe how much I love this little man. ¬†I never thought I would be that crazy dog mom, well I am now.

A few things about Luther:

  • He comes from Nashville, TN (hence Luther Nash)
  • His mom and dad are Holly & Winston
  • He loves belly rubs
  • Would eat peanut butter all day if we let him
  • loves to play catch
  • enjoys dancing
  • hogs the bed
  • loves to play with Blake
  • enjoys trips to Michigan
  • Not a huge fan of water but has went in the lake and pool last summer
  • He gets jealous when drew gives me attention (super protective)
  • loves to chase birds and squirrels
  • loves to go to daycare and play with all his little/ big friends

I went and got him this adorable party hat from Pink Antlers Studio where the kind gal made him the number one and put it on the top! She went out of her way, and I thought that was so sweet of her.

We got Luther’s sweet treats from Three Dog Bakery Leawood. If you are looking for a quick place to pick up your dog a fun treat head there. They also have many treats and toys.

5 things Luther Nash has reminded me to do

  1. Time is precious.

It has almost been 4 months since we have brought Luther Nash home and it has gone by so fast. I always say I live day by day but in my head I really am planning for the future and sometimes thats okay but I need to live more in the moment! I have had a huge reality check these past couple months especially with how fast this summer is going by! We must enjoy the big moments in life but also the little ones! ( look how tiny he was, side note: iPhone pictures from our road trip picking him up ūüôā )

  2. Be Silly.

Edited (15 of 21)Being an adult can be so serious sometimes. Luther reminds me that there has to be time to play and let your energy out and just simply be silly. Sometimes you just need to sing it out in the car, (guilty) or dance in the apartment by yourself ( guilty also of). The other night Andrew and I literally where crying in bed laughing so hard at the most ridiculous video! Being silly is good for your soul.

  3. Don’t Hold Grudges.

c (5 of 1)I mean look at that face!? How could you ever be mad at it. There are days where I just want to pull my hair out simply because he chooses to be a little booger some days! But I can’t be mad.I am the queen of holding grudges! But I have learned to move on you must let things go your only doing it to yourself!

  4. Give yourself a break.

Edited (3 of 8)Life is going by so ¬†fast, I mean look how fast this summer has already gone by! It’s a nice reminder when I see Luther laying down to just sit down and relax for a second!¬†I am use to walks on my own but now I of course bring Luther and we haven’t quite grasped the concept of a full walk. He follows his nose, lies down in the middle of the side walk or lies down in the grass and just look at me! It’s a good reminder to just take a break and I am okay with that!

  5. Smile Often.

luther (9 of 17)With so much going on in this world today its hard to smile sometimes! But Luther reminds me that we have to smile even if you have to fake it sometimes ( it can have positive impact on your stress levels and your mood). Luther is always happy and showing those pretty teeth. Its a good reminder that life is too short not to smile!

No one ever said having a dog was going to be a breeze and its not! But one thing I do know is Luther has pretty cool parents and we are all he knows. As humans we have family and friends. We are literally all Luther knows ( and of course the people and other dogs we expose him to) but we are his safe place. I recently have  been realizing that with our first trip coming up where we have to leave him!

If you’re getting or thinking about getting a puppy/ dog! Do it, ( only if you’re ready for the responsibility and work) it will change your life for the better! It has made me a better person and continuing¬†to change me in ways! I hope you all have a great Tuesday!

Big things are happening these next couple months and I can’t wait to share them with you!!! Hopefully blog to come sooner than later about it ūüôā

Luther Nash

Happy Friday and Happy 2 Months Luther Nash! I can’t believe he has been with us a week, today.

Luther’s Story!

4 Months ago Andrew and I talked about getting a puppy but were very indecisive, not only because they are an investment and time consuming but the fact that our lives would be forever changed. Andrew was addamit¬†on getting a Miniature Schnauzer because his family dog (Charlie) is that breed and they are great dogs! I agreed that we could get one also and once he gave me the GO I was on the hunt for breeders. We found Jennifer who owns¬†My Lovable Schnauzers¬†from Nashville, TN. She was very informational and I was in contact with her before we agreed to get a puppy to just pick her brain. I had lots of questions and she answered them all. She made the process getting Luther such a breeze. Once Luther was born, we had first pick between him and his brother they were both black but Luther has his little white patch. It took me 4.5 weeks to decided which one to choose, why do I say “it took me” because Andrew picked not only the breed he picked the sex and his name! So it was on me to choose which one we would bring home! We obviously chose Luther. There was just something about him during the weeks when we saw pictures/ videos and conversations between Jennifer (breeder) and I! He is the perfect match for us.

We traveled last week to Nashville to pick him up and he did awesome on our 8 hour drive. It felt like it took us 10 hours due to stopping and letting him out and always looking at him while driving haha! From the very beginning of wanting a dog I always believed in crate training. So he has been in his crate since day one being home and sleeping at night. He has done awesome every night. He cries for about the most 3 minutes and goes to bed until 6-7am with no accidents. He is staring to learn to go to the stairs to let us know he has to go potty, he’s had some accidents in the apartment but nothing major! He has became very attached to me which I think drew has became a little jelly ūüėČ but it was bound to happen to know of us! ¬†Luther LOVES to eat. We ended up feeding him a little more because he was acting like we were starving him, poor thing. His favorite toy is a partial giraffes butt ( thank you auntie Stacy ) this toy is hilarious and I have to go buy him more because it is practically missing its tail now!Link here to similar toy:¬†Dog Toy¬†.¬†Luther is getting along great with other dogs especially Lillie ( my sisters dog ) He loves her. He likes meeting knew people but is a little timid and shy at first but that is known with this type of breed, the more we expose him to people, noises and anything and everything the more he will be open. He loves spending the morning in the bathroom with Andrew and I when we get ready for work and loves the couch. He runs and tries to jump up but isn’t even close to clearing! He can go up all our stairs, but cannot go down them yet, he just barks! He can sit on command and we are working on laying down and roll over. He is still learning and so are we! This is a very big transition for Andrew and I but we are both thrilled and so happy we have him. I never thought I would be that “dog mom” but I am so GUILTY! I hope you all have a great Friday and awesome weekend!
